About
My name is Marika Mikulak and I am a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist. In June 2014, I completed four years of Psychotherapy Training at Flatstone Institute in Cork, Ireland, a training that is accredited by the Irish Association for Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP). In October 2015, I was awarded the Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. As therapists we are always learning and exploring new avenues for helping others on their journey, I also felt the hunger for more knowledge and in October 2016 I embarked on a MSc Programme in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute in London, United Kingdom which I successfully completed in May 2019. This Programme is validated by Middlesex University.
In addition to my studies, I have done a number of courses and workshops on a variety of topics including trauma, shame, mindfulness, attachment, alcohol and drug use, managing aggression, creative arts therapies, and Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) training. Currently I am training to be a facilitator of family constellations using Bert Hellinger's approach.
I have been seeing clients since November 2013. What motivates me in my work is my belief that nobody should struggle on their own and that therapy is for anyone who is finding life difficult for whatever reason, but also for those who simply want to get to know and understand themselves better. Socrates said: 'The unexamined life is not worth living.' I see my job as facilitating people to find their own answers as I strongly believe that we are all experts on ourselves. I believe that one fixed theory would limit both my creativity as a practitioner and the space for change, healing and growth. Therefore, in my work I integrate different approaches to therapy and use them when a situation calls for them. This helps me to respond to clients' individual needs and the uniqueness of their circumstances, as well as to actively respond to our work together as it unfolds in the process of therapy. I am an accredited member of IAHIP and in my work I abide by their Code of Ethics.
Since October 2018 until March 2022, I was also involved in co-facilitating a personal development course 'Steps: A Journey of Growth' and since September 2020, I have been lecturing in PCI College on their Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy course.
My interest in intergenerational transmission of trauma, patterns and behaviour led me to start training in the Family Constellations approach and now I not only integrate it into my daily work but also with a colleague we run regular family constellation sessions for groups.
My passion for psychotherapy is also reflected in some occasional writing on various subjects related to the field. So far two articles have been published in the Inside Out journal. Here are the links to them:
